ICT STAKEHOLDERS GATHER IN LAGOS TO PROFFER SOLUTION TO CYBER SECURITY THREAT
Worried
by the rising threat of Cyber Security breaches across the financial landscape
and other sectors of the national economy with its attendant consequence on the
Nigeria’s economic growth, key stakeholders in the Information Communication
& Technology (ICT) industry at home and in diaspora, will gather in Lagos
to discuss the threats in the Nigerian cyberspace, hacker techniques as well as
methods to combat these threats.
At
the one-day maiden conference tagged: Nigeria Security Conference 2017 (NaijaSecCon17),
scheduled to hold in Lagos tomorrow, Thursday, May 4 at Landmark Event Centre
and sponsored by Skye Bank Plc., participants would be exposed to, and educated
on current trends in combating the menace of rising cyber security issues and
how to keep themselves secure.
According
a statement issued and signed by the Conference Co-ordinator, Mr. Rotimi
Akinyele: “This one-day conference, is set to be the most technical
cyber-security conference in Nigeria. A gathering of key stakeholders in the
security alongside the techies – hackers; malware and forensics analysts;
security researchers, vulnerability hunters etc., will be speaking at the
conference and covering all pertinent cyber-security themes”.
“While
most security conferences in Nigeria are focused on Governance, Risk and
Compliance (GRC), NaijaSecCon17 Cyber security Conference, brings to you the
actual technical aspects of cyber-security in perfect blend with GRC”, the
statement further stated.
Giving
a peep into what the conference has on offer, Mr. Akinyele disclosed that
“participants will witness live demonstrations of how security breaches occur
from reconnaissance - through delivery and exploitation various system
vulnerabilities - learn how cyber-threat actors gain control of an enterprise,
and the actions they take.”
“The
conference is also focusing on how to detect and prevent such cyber-threats,
and thereby improve enterprise security. Hence, briefs and presentations at the
conference are focused on practical offensive and defensive security, noting
the focus is on disseminating detailed insights and technical knowledge
required of any forward-thinking cyber-security professional - knowing that
cyber-criminals - always seems to be one step ahead.”

also hosts as part of its maiden cyber-security conference, a Capture-The-Flag
(CTF) Hackathon - where participants would be able to meet and get to network
with about 30 top Nigerian hands-on cyber-security specialists. The top 8 teams
have been selected from the 18 different teams that participated in the
qualifying round by solving cyber-security challenges relating to forensics;
web-security; cryptography; reverse engineering as well as cyber-security
trivia challenges.
While
lauding the support the conference has received from Skye Bank, the ICT expert
said: “We share in the mantra of our platinum sponsor – that the Skye is big
enough. Hence, the conference is a collaborative effort of cyber-security
enthusiasts both in Nigeria and in diaspora who are passionate about improving
the Nigerian cyber-sphere through factual training, education and awareness.”
The
conference also aims to enlighten the public and organizations of some of the
new wave to cyber threats and vulnerabilities which have been discovered
through research or encountered on the field by speakers at the conference.
Some of these vulnerabilities according to the organisers, relate to financial
applications security; ransomware and exploits, which have been crafted
specifically to targets financial institutions, Telecommunications Company
amongst others.”
